A consortium of public schools in Sapporo has launched a pioneering initiative using AI to combat student dropout and absenteeism.

By aggregating data from attendance records, grades, behavioral logs, and even extracurricular participation, the AI system identifies students who are at risk of falling behind. Automated alerts are sent to school counselors and teachers, who can then intervene with tailored support, such as mentoring, counseling sessions, or family outreach.

The program has already shown tangible results: schools reported a 25% decrease in dropout rates compared to the previous academic year. Educators praise the AI’s ability to recognize subtle patterns that might be missed by humans, enabling more proactive and effective intervention.
