Tohoku University’s Department of Biology recently adopted generative AI tools to accelerate genomic research and data analysis.

The AI system can process and interpret massive genomic datasets, identifying patterns and anomalies in a fraction of the time required by traditional methods. Researchers say what used to take weeks now takes only hours, allowing for more rapid hypothesis testing and scientific discovery.

The system also generates visualizations and summary reports, helping students and faculty better understand the data. As a result, students have more hands-on experience with cutting-edge data science techniques, and the university has boosted its international research collaborations.
